What should I expect for my first Osteopathy appointment?

Your first appointment will include both an assessment and treatment.

We will go over the full history of your symptoms to better understand what is going on. Most of this information you will have filled out online in the intake form ahead of time, so we will review it briefly just to make sure nothing is missed.

All appointments are one-on-one. Meaning we only see one patient at a time, and do not pass you off to any "assistants". Your first appointment is always 60 min and follow ups may be 30, 45 or 60 min.

Your assessment and treatment will always involve the whole body, not just the areas you are feeling symptoms. Everything is connected :)

How many sessions will I need?

We always tell our patients, you will feel at least a little bit better after a session. There should be steady upwards progress. If you aren’t feeling changes, we will always be trying something new or different. As we all know, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity! There is absolutely an answer to your symptoms and we will keep searching until we find the right solution for you.

We understand everyone wants to know how long it will take to heal, and that is an impossible question for us to answer. Anyone who promises you results within a certain time frame is probably not being truthful with you. Because there is no way for anyone to guarantee something that is so individual.

The best answer that we can give you is that you should be seeing steady upwards progress and that way we know we are heading towards the finished line.

Everyone is different and there are many factors outside of your sessions with us that we have no control over which will affect your healing (i.e. stress levels, how often you do the home exercises, etc).

What should I wear to my osteopathy appointment?

Please wear clothes that you would be comfortable exercising in. And clothes that allow easy access to areas you specifically want looked at (I.e. bring shorts if you want us to look at your knees).

Will my treatment hurt?

No. We do not follow the "no pain, no gain" philosophy. Our assessments and treatments are never meant to be painful and we always check in with you. If you don’t like what you’re feeling, we don’t proceed and will do something different.

Do my benefits cover Osteopathy?

Most likely yes, but you will have to check with your specific plan. Curt does have a billing number as he is part of the Ontario Osteopathic Association. So if your plan covers Osteopathy, then your visit with him will be covered.

Do you offer direct billing?

For Massage Therapy we offer direct billing with both Sunlife and Manulife, as long as your plan allows it. You can always check with your plan ahead of time :)

For Osteopathy, we are able to direct bill with Manulife for some plans. Regardless, you can submit your receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement if we aren't able to direct bill with your insurance company or specific plan.

It's not our decision whether or not we can direct bill with certain plans for Osteopathy - insurance companies such as Sunlife and Canada Life unfortunately don't allow it at this time.

Do I need a doctors note?

You do not need a doctors note to come see us unless your insurance company requires it for the service to be covered. Check with your plan ahead of time.

What injuries/ conditions do you treat?

As mentioned all through out our website, we view the body as a whole. We treat all types of musculoskeletal pain and symptoms, regardless of the label given to them. We are less about labels and more about finding the root cause of your specific collection of symptoms.

Do I need an "injury" or reason to book an appointment?

The best reason to book an appointment is for health. No further reason is needed.
Prevention & maintenance are so important and great reasons to come see us.

And of course if you have injuries or symptoms we are here for you. It is never to late to seek help.
